Feeding the hungry

Food Drive

In support of individuals seeking asylum in Australia, students in Year 12 have organised a Food Drive that will be carried out from 2 – 10 August.

Food Drives are an amazing way to assist and raise awareness about the issue of hunger in our local community. The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre is Australia's largest human rights organisation providing support to individuals who are less fortunate. Partnering with the ASRC Foodbank, they currently provide free groceries to over 1000 people every week, most of which have no income or working rights.

Whilst the ASRC accepts most donations, there are prioritised needs which have been requested from various individuals including: tuna in oil, sweet and savoury biscuits, dried fruit, jam and peanut butter.

Please avoid donating baked beans, tinned spaghetti and canned or packaged soups as they are not accepted by the ASRC; likewise, items that are past their best-before date, damaged or have been opened.

Any donations are much appreciated - and a big THANK YOU to those who can support this Food Drive. We hope this drive will raise awareness of the hardships many Asylum Seekers face on arrival in a new country, in particular finding a continuous source of food. We also hope the drive will encourage others to continue to support the ASRC in the future.

Drop your donations in the bag provided at the Blackhall Kalimna office between 2 - 10 August. Thank you.
