BAYSIDE YOUTHS COUNCILS  CLIMATE SUMIT

In December 2019 Bayside City Council voted unanimously to declare a Climate Emergency, recognising the need for urgent, meaningful action on human-induced climate change.

Since then, Council has developed and adopted the Climate Emergency Action Plan 2020 – 2025 based on the feedback of nearly 3,000 community members.  As part of this Action Plan the Council ran the Annual Schools Climate Action Summit.

On Wednesday the 16th of June, 17 Students from year 7 and 8 had the opportunity to participate in the Bayside Youth Councils Climate Summit. The day entailed a variety of speakers who informed us about climate change, and what we as students of BSC can do to help combat climate change, as well as a variety of workshops and activities.

We also had a guest speaker talk to us about how we can cope with climate change, and the effects climate change may have on the younger generation’s mental health and wellbeing.

Overall, the experience was very informative, and we hope to implement some action from this!
