YEAR 8 BUSINESS

The class worked in five separate business groups and had to formulate their own business idea and then complete a detailed business portfolio considering all aspects of starting a business.

The planning enabled students to see the interconnectedness in business operations allowing them to have an in-depth understanding of business functions and provided real world context.

The groups collaborated for all of Term Two in order to plan, research and write a business portfolio of up to 3,500 words.

Their finished portfolios will now be submitted in a national competition run by BEA [Business Educators Australasia].

There are cash prizes up for grabs and I wish my hardworking and innovative Year 8 I&E students the best of luck!

Throughout this unit I have learnt new things, faced some challenges but most importantly had a lot of fun. Some challenges our business faced was getting our team to all agree on a name logo and location, everybody wanted to do something different but luckily in the end we all came to an agreement. Choosing a price was also a big challenge. I have learnt a lot on how to run a business. I am now able to write up a whole business plan if I ever need to in the future, also learning how to make a financial plan will greatly help me as one day I wish to be an entrepreneur myself.

I think overall our team faced many challenges. Some would include the process of learning to adapt more teamwork into our team when it comes to creating the different aspects of the project. Other things such as marketing decisions are quite important within a new business and as such we put a lot of thought into them and used methods such as online surveys to help to collect data and create a price that applies and is within the realm of public opinion and profit for the business. All of the business process was a really great experience and certainly instilled a lot of useful information and practical work to assist me to maybe even produce a real business in the future.
