Year 10 NSW Debating Final

Last Friday evening, our Year 10 Debating team represented St Patrick's College against St Mary Star of the Sea College in the final of the NSW CSDA competition. They were fighting for the title of State Champion, which is the furthest I've ever seen a debating team from St Patrick's College progress in the competition. In doing so, they were trying to replicate the achievement of the 2017 Year 12 Debating team who were the last SPC team to be crowned State Champions.

We were affirmative for the topic (paraphrasing) "that technology has stifled our creativity". Joel Hallifax (First Speaker), Thomas Coorey (Second Speaker) and Luke Sultana (Third Speaker) did some great debating and came close to achieving victory, however, the adjudicators awarded the debate to the opposition. Congratulations to the boys and coaches for making it so far and I hope everyone is pumped for an even bigger year of debating come 2023.

Homework Club

Parents/carers and boys are advised that Homework Club will continue up to and inclusive of Wednesday 30 November 2022 prior to shutting down over the semester break. I take this opportunity to commend those boys who choose to use this service and at the same time, acknowledge and thank the staff who supervise and assist the boys. Homework Club will re-open in Week 2 of Term 1 next year.

Theatresports

The last few weeks has seen St Patrick’s College host several schools in Theatresports competitions involving Junior School and Year 7 - 8 teams. These events have been very well supported and visiting teams and their supporters are very appreciative of St Patrick’s College’s hospitality. I would like to take this opportunity to thank and commend Ms Duff, Ms Armanno and Mr Donohoe for their contribution to this activity.

Having been fortunate enough to spectate at these events, I can attest to the excellent standard of “improv” creativity witnessed by all. The two SPC teams have represented the College very well and their development has been dramatic, pardon the pun. I encourage the wider St Patrick’s College community to come along and witness an evening of Theatresports when it resumes next year. Plenty of laughs, excellent acting and heaps of surprises.
