Week 6 Update

Well done to several teams last Saturday on their terrific results.

I would like to sincerely thank all coaches, players and spectators for their beautiful tributes to Archer Gray last Saturday with all boys wearing black arm bands and, in some cases, pausing for a moment of silence before the commencement of their fixture.

Congratulations to Mitchell Woods and Alex Conti on their involvement in being crowned as U16 National Rugby Champions after defeating Queensland 40 – 10 at Warringah Rugby Park last Sunday.

Swimming Report

The 2022/23 St Patrick’s College Swimming season has commenced with the entire squad competing in two carnivals. The squad was invited to attend the Trinity Grammar Invitational Carnival on Friday 4 November. This was a great opportunity for the squad to experience some new style events with the Skins Races. A Skins event is an exciting series of back-to-back races which operates on a knockout basis. Eventually, the two remaining swimmers race each other in a head-to-head final.

There was some exciting racing with Jack Taylor taking out the 16 years Skins title and Nicholas Macher coming a close second in the 15 years Skins battle. Other outstanding performances were Austin Hall’s first place in the 50m Butterfly. Congratulations to Patrick McDonald (Year 6) who courageously competed at the carnival and swam up an age group against some tough competition.

The Annual St Patrick’s College Invitational Swimming Carnival was held on Friday 11 November 2022 at the Ryde Aquatic Centre. We came to the Ryde Invitational with an extra week of training under coach Mark Bull and the experience gained from the Trinity Grammar carnival. Special mention to Matthew Svoboda (Year 12) for his commitment to the squad for again swimming the 200m Freestyle event.

The most outstanding performance of the night came from Jack Taylor, breaking the 16 years 50m Freestyle record. His swim of 24.44 seconds comfortably broke the previous record, which sat at 25.39 seconds. Congratulations to the intermediate 4 x 50m Freestyle relay team who placed first against a very competitive field. The team consisted of Nicholas Macher, James Kelly, Jack Taylor and Austin Hall.

Thank you to our new head swim coach Mark Bull, who has helped prepare the boys for these past carnivals. Thank you also, to all the College teachers and the Year 12 prefects, who gave up their evening to make the carnival possible by timekeeping and marshalling.
