From the Assistant Principal

Years 10-12

Ross Pritchard

Term 4 is upon us and there is an air of excitement on campus.  The Class of 2022 is preparing for their graduation and the Year 12 exams beginning on Wednesday October 26th.

Projects like PADSIP (Positive Ageing Digital Storytelling Intergenerational Project) and Year 10 Science rocket building are coming to launch phase.  Summer sports are competing. Planning for 2023 has begun and all students are working towards finishing their current year level and beginning Head Start programs in mid-November.

On Friday 7th October, the school celebrated the launch of the Auburn Alumni Association by hosting a group of 65 graduates and former teachers for a ‘Back to School’ event. Graduates from 2016-2021 gathered to share stories of past and present.  The event was a huge success and the concept of having an Alumni Association was very much supported by all present.  The Principal, Maria Karvouni, spoke about the value of community, the strengths of the school and the desire to have past students involved in programs like sport, careers, information nights, mentoring and tutoring. The school already utilises alumni as sport coaches and guest speakers and it is exciting to anticipate the next phase of this.  I would like to thank Anmol Obulapu (Class of 2021) for all his assistance in setting up the event and managing all the online promotions.  Also, thanks to staff for supporting the night:  Mr Lanfranchi (BBQ), Ms Wong, Ms Satilmis, Mr Stannard, Mr Ryan, Mr Felbel, Mr Lamb, Mr McPherson, Ms Price, Ms Mills, Ms Zhang and Ms Phillipson.  Former staff Katrina Ketsakidis, Sara Amos and Dannielle Gibson also came along to reminisce.  Stay tuned for the 2023 event that will be held in March.  If you know of any graduates, please get them to contact: alumni@auburnhs.vic.edu.au

On October 18th, the Class of 2022 leave as full-time students for the last time.  They graduate from classroom teaching, bells, Tutor Groups and 8.45am starts.  The final phase of their school experience concentrates on preparing for their exams or completing all the set work for their subjects.  I congratulate them on their efforts and contribution to the school so far this year.  As a cohort, their attitude and application has been outstanding.  They have been good role models for the other year levels, setting the campus expectations after two years of significant remote learning.

A big thank you also to the parents of these young adults, the staff look forward to meeting them all at the Graduation Ceremony and Valedictory dinner on Tuesday night October 18th.  This will be an amazing evening of celebration and nostalgia.
