Mood Management Tools
This term Year 9 student, Neo R and Alison Hicks (Mental Health Practitioner) have been working on a booklet of resources to assist with mood tracking, crisis response, self-care, mindfulness, coping skills, pleasant events, relaxation techniques, journal proforma, mindful colouring, water tracking, sleep strategies and foods that promote healthy mood.
We have also enclosed the Zones of Regulation which is a tool for managing emotional regulation. Each coloured box represents a part of the nervous system. When we are in the Green Zone, we are feeling safe and ready to learn. Therefore, our job is to recognise what Zone we are in at any time and use the tools in the Toolbox (which you can personalise) to help bring your nervous system back into the Green Zone.
Our goal is to have an emotional regulation ladder poster (similar to the Zones) in each classroom with strategies that both students and teachers can use to help student nervous systems feels safe and ready to learn.
We are currently working on another booklet for Anxiety and Depression so keep your eye out.
