Principals Report

- Sarah Rose, Principal

The final term of the school year is always jam packed with activity, and our first two weeks back are evidence of that. Already, we’ve had our year 8 students attend the Live4Life excursion at Braemar College, our year 9 students participate in a range of activities onsite through the RAID program, our Year 10s treated to an in-person performance of Macbeth in the Barcham Theatre, our year 11 Outdoor Education students went hiking in the Little Desert National Park and our year 12 VCAL students enjoyed a fun day Go Karting. That’s in addition to our year 7 basketball teams competing at the Western Ranges level earlier this week.

The next few days in particular will see another raft of activities with our year 12s having their costume day today, their final classes on Monday and a fun day out at Funfields on Tuesday before they knuckle down to study in the lead up to their written examinations.  I am particularly looking forward to our celebration day for our year 12s on Monday culminating in a Graduation Ceremony whole-school assembly with family and friends also in attendance.  This will be a wonderful event and I’m so pleased we’re able to welcome back these traditions that we have all missed so much.  Monday will also see our Year 10 students ‘go live’ with their Market place program – I can’t wait to see the various stalls and activities the cohort has planned for students and staff to engage with.

This term is not only one for tying up final assessments but is when we start to look forward to the next school year.  We will do this via our formal Step-Up program which will see students move into their 2023 classes at various points (dates are listed in the 2022 calendar).  This provides students the opportunity to meet their new teachers and classmates and get a feel for their new subjects before the formal commencement in the New Year.

I would like to remind families of the Student Free Day planned on Monday 31st Oct and the Melbourne Cup Public Holiday on Tuesday 1st Nov.  The College will be closed to students both days (with the exception of Year 12s who have exams scheduled on Monday 31st October), with classes resuming as normal on Wednesday 2nd November.

I hope everyone is staying safe and your respective properties are faring well with the high rainfall we’ve recently experienced and are expected to continue to receive.

Please take care and as always, if you’ve any questions, concerns or feedback, don’t hesitate to get in touch via our contact details listed later in this newsletter and/or via our website.
