Numeracy

Students will continue to build on their knowledge of Number and Place Value with a focus on Fractions. Students will be introduced to Fractions where they are learning about equal parts and will be showing fractions in a variety of ways. In the area of Applied Mathematics, we are learning about Mass and Capacity.

This term it is expected that students will:

Grade One

• Recognise and describe one-half as one of two equal parts of a whole
• Measure and compare the masses of pairs of objects using uniform informal units
• Measure and compare the capacities of pairs of objects using uniform informal units

Grade Two

• Recognise and interpret common uses of halves, quarters and eighths of shapes and collections
• Compare masses of objects using balance scales
• Compare and order several objects based on capacity using appropriate uniform informal units
