Teaching and Learning

Welcome Back To Term 2

With the unusual start to the term last week with Easter Monday and ANZAC day, lots of families took advantage of the shortened week and extended their holiday break. We are back in the full swing of things this week with teaching and learning programs back up and running as normal.

Term 2 has lots of events and activities coming up with a number of camps, excursions to Parliament, Secondary Sports day and Education Week in week 5. At the start of this term classes are continuing their focus on addition and subtraction as well as looking at shape and location in Maths. They are wrapping up their unit on Narratives in Writing and in Reading students are either exploring phonics and word knowledge or text structure and organisation depending on the focus of their class. In Integrated Studies classes are continuing their exploration of Identity this term. PreCAL classes are also continuing their focus on Team Work by learning and practicing skills together, taking turns and sharing ideas. VCAL classes have changed their work related skills groups this term and are getting into the swing of their new experience.

Education Week 2019

This year we will be celebrating Education Week on Thursday 23rd May with a school wide open morning (please see below for specific campus information). We would love to see as many families as possible attend to visit their child’s classroom. Our students would love to showcase their learning with you and share the things they are working on in their rooms. During the week classes will also be participating in a nationwide Simultaneous Reading session of ‘Alpaca’s with Maracas’ and exploring the Education Week theme of ‘Celebrating Careers’.

Open morning times on Thurs May 23rd:

Watsonia campus 9:15 – 10:15am followed by morning tea in classrooms

Bundoora campus 9:15 – 10:15am followed by morning tea in the Discovery Centre

Supporting Learning at Home

Numeracy: Tune into your child’s favourite sport. How do they tally the score? What maths is used to keep score?

Literacy: Talk about something that has happened or an event that interests your child. Ask them to describe what happened and how it made them feel.
