Architect Feedback re: New building:

Building works will take place at the beginning of May 2019.  The shed, garage, portables and containers will be moved by the end of May. Over the holidays, a great new footpath has been made at the back of the school between the Cricket club and Concord school to make it safer for the Concord community. The back gate has been relocated around the other side of the Cricket Club near the Sec 11/12 entrance.

New Business:

Brayden G- (Sec 11/12) has shared data regarding the Bomber Jacket option for Sec Year 12 students. Designs presented last year were looked at and acknowledged. Colin said that the data was excellent and Kylie volunteered to work with Deb Whiteway to organise this process. Further discussion will be held at School Council at the next meeting. Colin commented on a very thorough presentation by Brayden.

Jack F (Sec 7/8) would like to us to consider a red formal shirt for the uniform instead of white. Colin said interesting idea but the Uniform options have been decided on and the sports uniform is currently red

Jacob C ( PCA) asked what is School Council. Colin said what an amazing question. Kylie answered that it is a group of parents and staff that get together once per month in the Conference room and discuss  OHS, finances, policies and everything that  helps to improve learning and the care of  the Concord community.

Jack F ( Sec 7/8) and Josh C (Sec 11/12) would like to suggest other options for Breakfast Club. Sometimes the toast runs out quickly. Colin explained that Sec 11/12 Breakfast club has moved to the Secondary 11/12 section and he suggested that juice and fresh fruit could be added to the menu. He will liaise with Jen Z, the coordinator of the program.

Trey(Upper) would like Colin D to follow up on the hammock in Upper Primary. The hammock requires major work and is being sent away for repair.

Song Selection:

-Marshmellow- ‘Here with Me’ suggested by Jack

-  Ensemble- Greatest Showman theme song suggested by Faisal

-Carlton theme song- suggested by Amy. Colin said we wouldn’t be able to play that because we would then have to play all theme songs. We can save that for Footy Day.

- Sia-  Birds Set Free- suggested by Roger.

Thank you to everyone. Thank you to our special guest Kylie Lewin  and Karen J. See you next meeting. Meetings for 2019 will be at 2:15pm as follows: Tuesday 14th May,11th June,16th July,13th August,10th September,15th October,12th November,3rd December.

Mobile Phones

Thank you to parents and carers for supporting our revised rules around phone use, already we have noticed a positive impact during the school day and in particular on the yard at recess and lunch.

Our student mobile phone rules are:

  • All secondary students from Year 7-12  are required to hand their phones to their teacher at 9am. The phones will be placed in a security box in the classroom for the day and will be returned at 3pm.
  • Year 11 /12 students are also required to hand their phones to their teacher at 9am but are permitted to access their phones only in the transition building and only at lunchtime. After lunch time the phones will be handed back into the teacher and secured.
  • Phones for school-related activities are at the teacher’s discretion, e.g. Using Google Maps, calculator, P.T.V. planner etc.
  • Use of phones on excursions is also at teacher discretion.
  • Students may have “music only” devices in the yard at recess and lunch

A reminder that:

Mobile phones and portable technology owned by students are brought to school at their own risk. Students are discouraged from bringing mobile phones and portable technology to school. The DET and Concord School do not accept responsibility for lost or damaged student mobile phones and portable technology, do not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and will not pay for any loss or damage to mobile phones and portable technology.

If you need to contact your child during the school day this can be done so through the main office. This procedure is consistent with many other secondary schools.
