Tournament of Minds

On Saturday 25th August, the St Raphael's Tournament of Minds team competed at La Trobe University. Our team chose to compete in the STEM challenge.

The challenge asked the students to 'discover' a new species of animal.

The team worked really hard on the challenge and were an amazing team.

A huge thank you the St Raph's community for your donations and especially to Carole Lay for her help during the 6 week challenge. We will find out the results in the coming weeks.

Preston Regional Debating Day 2018

Team 1: Ava Heuvel-Devlin, Bianca Marcellino, Lilyana Talarico

Team 2: Riley Bevis, Isaac Wood, Sara Lay

On Tuesday 21st of August, there was a buzz around the school as St Raphael’s hosted the Preston Regional Debating Competition. The attending schools were St Raphael’s Primary School, Bell Primary School, Kingswood College, St Brigid’s Gisborne and Brunswick East Primary School. The debating topics were:

That violent video games should be banned.

That children should earn pocket money.

That children should have mobile phones.

Our debating teams consisted of six of our Year 5/6 students who both did a phenomenal job. The students worked extremely hard preparing their arguments and the teamwork they displayed during their preparation and on the day was highly impressive. Their hard work and dedication resulted in some outstanding results. Team 1 were undefeated, winning their 3 arguments whilst Team 2 kept their competitors on their toes with their persuasive arguments and thought-provoking rebuttals.

Congratulations to our debating teams and well done to Lilyana and Sara who were awarded Best Speakers for their debates. The St Raphael’s school community is very proud of you all.
