School for Student Leadership

Alpine School

The School for Student Leadership (SSL), previously known as Alpine School, is a state government initiative offering a unique residential education experience for year nine students across Victoria. This year saw four students, Celia Nguyen, Ivy Tran, Mathilda Van Keulen and Joel Piscopo take on the adventure. As part of the program, students also complete a Community Learning Project (CLP) in their local community.

This year, Celia, Ivy, Mathilda and Joel worked in partnership with year 12 VCAL students Tanisha Strong-Wilson, Casey Saliba, Kyle McHugh Taylor and James Xerri-Falzon to run the Year 7 Sleepout. The Sleepout was a tremendous success, with 41 Year seven students participating in games, trivia, a treasure hunt, dancing, limbo, movies and pizza – all organised by the student leaders. Students then roughed it for the night, sleeping on the floor in the science wing, to experience sleeping without all the comforts of home. Over $200 was raised and donated to charity to support the homelessness cause.

St Albans Secondary College has been lucky to gain places for six more students to attend SSL in term 2, 2018. We will be looking for motivated, open-minded and independent students who are ready for a new challenge. The School for Student Leadership is a fantastic, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Information will be provided to students in the coming weeks. In the meantime, check out the website at http://www.gnurad-gundidj.vic.edu.au/
