Year 7 Boys Basketball

After training for many weeks, the Year 7 Boys Basketball team were fit, skilled and enthusiastic. Firstly we played Copperfield Sydenham who beat us. They were a very skilled and well drilled team. Disappointed? Yes, but in talking with their team, half of them regularly play competitive basketball outside of school. Later we played KDC. Our boys won easily. Our captain Jerome was a dangerous player who had other teams heavily marking him each time he got the ball. Joel our vice-captain played superbly and had a significant influence on our games. Kaylen, Tommy and Danny defended well. Nich’s presence around the goal was always a concern for the other teams. Tony Le, Tony To, Andy, Minh and David all made valuable contributions. The boys’ behaviour, effort and commitment to their training development were excellent. Well done boys.

Year 8 Boys Basketball

The Year 8 Boys Basketball team was a well-balanced squad, and went into the tournament with high hopes after their success in Year 7 last year.

The first game got off to a bad start, however, with some early game nerves and lack of cohesion leading to some costly turnovers. While the boys regrouped in the second half, they were never able to pull back the lead, losing to a strong Copperfield side.  The next two games were much better, with comfortable wins against KDC and Sunshine. Unfortunately, while we finished equal top of our division on games won, we just missed out on going through to the final due to goal difference.

Every player made a contribution at different stages: the skilful ball handling and passing of Daniel, Andrew and Mustafa, the inside presence provided by Laki and Zac, the strong two-way play of Anthony and John, and the energy and hustle of Jason and Tung.

Thanks to the team for giving it your best and for your exemplary behaviour throughout the day, and thanks also to all the boys who came to the meetings and training sessions but didn’t make to the final team.

Year 7 & 8 Volleyball

On Monday 17 August, the Year 7 & 8 boys and girls participated in the Keilor Division Inter School Sport for Volleyball.  The Year 8 girls team had a very successful day and finished undefeated in their tournament at Copperfield College. They felt the pressure in their pool of competitors when they played to three sets against Sunshine, winning that game lead them into a final against V.U.S.C. They won against V.U.S.C in two sets and will progress into the Western Metro Regional Finals next term. The Year 7 boys also had a successful tournament winning against Gilson College in the finals; they will also progress to the Western Metro Regional Finals next term.

Year 7 & 8 Table Tennis

The Year 7 & 8 boy’s table tennis teams recently played in the western zone competition which was held at our school in the gym on Thursday 20 August.

The Year 7 boys team had to compete against Keilor Downs College and Taylors Lakes Secondary in a round robin competition format with the winner going into the finals. We absolutely dominated Taylors Lakes Secondary, winning 6 matches to zero. However, we loss 4 matches to 2 against Keilor Downs College. Unfortunately that match put us out of the running to make it to the next round.

Well done to the Year 7 team: Kenny Ngo, Connor Buckley, Kyle Chamberlain, Bao Thai and James Mangali.

The Year 8 boys table tennis team had to compete against Keilor Downs College and Victoria University Park in a round robin competition format with the winner going into the finals. The boys gave VU no chance of winning any matches. However, against KDC, the western zone state team of 2014, we completed that match with a draw in matches 3 – 3 but doing the count back onto sets and they unfortunately won more overall which put us out of the running.  It was such a valiant fight and we definitely will come back stronger next year.

Well done to the Year 8 team: John Chen, Edward Huang, Ryan Lee and Johnny Nguyen.
