Term 4 Activities in the Library

As the year starts to wind down, we still have plenty of things to look forward to in the library this term. We’ve decided that Book Club will meet every week, due to popular demand! If you’ve never been before, you can join in the discussion on Wednesday lunchtimes at any time. It is not like a “normal” book club where you are assigned books to read… instead we get together to chat about what we’re reading and make recommendations to each other. Book Club also gets first pick of all the brand new books coming into the library.

In Week 3 we held a book sale to raise funds for the Relay for Life effort. It was a great success with 150 second-hand books finding new homes, and money donated to a great cause. Thank you to the Library Monitors who helped out on the day.

We also celebrated the Australian Reading Hour with a whole lunchtime worth of silent reading. This national event encourages children and adults to either rediscover or introduce themselves to the benefits of reading. Many students and staff enjoyed the chance to read in peace, and requested we make it a weekly occurrence in the library!

Our new library system, Accessit, allows students to write book reviews for anything they’ve borrowed from the library. Twice a year we award prizes to the Top Reviewer (the student who writes the most reviews) and the Best Overall Review. These will be announced in Week 7 this term. For more information on how to add your book reviews to the catalogue, just ask your friendly library staff.

We change our window display every few weeks and this term you can look out for displays with books on these themes: Writing Guides for Budding Writers, Mental Health Week resources, Biographies & Memoirs, and Summer Holiday Reading for everyone. We also put all our new books at the front desk and the tops of the shelves, so check out those spots for the latest and greatest reads.

With exams coming up, keep an eye out for the return of our De-Stress Zone in the back corner of the library, with colouring-in, stress balls, jigsaw puzzles, picture books and other relaxing, mindful activities to give you a mental break when you need it.

Finally, a very special thanks go to our amazing Year 12 Library Captains/Monitors: Josh Bereson, Suzannah Stone and Maya Dalpas. Thank you for your contributions to the library this year, and all the very best for the exciting adventures that lie ahead! We will miss you in the library.
