HOW2Learn

There is little doubt that the classroom of 2018 bears only the most superficial resemblance to any classroom that the parents of our students 'learned' in. There may be some who lament that fact and long for the days of yore where to paraphrase the stereotypical populist politician 'we are back to basics and teaching Reading, Writing and Arithmetic - the 3R's' thereby demonstrating immediately the paucity of their education.

We have spoken often of the changed world into which the students of today will enter and of the overriding moral imperative of schools and teachers to equip their students to survive and thrive in the world of tomorrow not the world of yesterday. To that end the HOW2Learn platform is aimed at equipping teachers to better approach their classrooms and the students in them. It goes without saying that in doing so we are also better equipping our students to learn and connect with their world. As of the beginning of 2018 all teachers in NSW are being accredited in their practice through the NSW Education Standards Authority and their practices are mapped to the seven Australian Professional Standards for Teachers;

1. Know students and how they learn

2. Know the content and how to teach it

3. Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning

4. Create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments

5. Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning

6. Engage in professional learning

7. Engage professionally with colleagues, parents/carers and the community
