SSWA (School Sport WA) and ACC (Associated Catholic Colleges) Cross Country

The Cross Country season began early in Term One with training on twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday. During Term One it was amazing to see over 100 students at some of our sessions in the lead up to our House Cross Country Carnival at the end of Term One. Following the House Carnival our Interschool Cross Country Squad was selected with training moving to 3 times a week. A huge thanks to Mr Cameron Tremayne who has lead training throughout Term One and Two. Mr Tremayne received tremendous assistance from Mr Cameron Haines, Miss Carla Tripi with some cameo appearances from Miss Mindy Toleman and Mr Luke McCourt. Following is a summary of our performance at the Interschool events.

SSWA Cross Country – Friday 19 May McGillivray Oval

On a day where the weather threatened to make things extremely difficult for our runners over a tough course that varied from 3km to 6km, depending on gender and age group. Our runner performed magnificently taking out 2nd position overall and finish 4th in both the overall male and female categories. Whilst cross country running is a very individual battle against the elements and the clock. The team event works with scoring constructed such that for a school to qualify for an event, they must have a minimum of three runners complete the course within the prescribed cut off time. To qualify for overall aggregate trophies schools must qualify for all events in an age group. The lower the place the better the score and the school with the lowest overall score wins.

Detailed individual and team results for the events on the day are available via the following link; http://www.schoolsportwa.com.au/interschool/secondary/cross-country/

A special mention to our athletes that have been invited to join the State Cross Country team.

  • Zac Thomas – Year 10 Loyola
  • Sian Munks – Year 12 St. Louis
  • Lucy Jenkins – Year 10 Koolyangarra

ACC Cross Country – Thursday 1 June – Alderbury Reserve

We were blessed with near perfect running conditions for the ACC Carnival with little to no breeze and cool clear condition all day. The ACC is a team event with a schools first three runners counting towards their score in each gender and age group. The lower the place the better the score and the school with the lowest overall score wins. A summary of the College’s results is below.

Our girls finished 3rd in the overall aggregate on the day. They were only 25 places away from taking out 1st position. Our boys finished a very credible 7th overall. This resulted in John XXIII College finishing 4th Overall.

Congratulations to the following students who finished Top 20 on the day;

  • Sian Munks – 2nd Open girls
  • Holly Cannon – 3rd U14 girls
  • Lucy Jenkins – 5th  U16 girls
