Around The Primary

Dear Parents

We are having a very busy and productive term. At the moment our teachers are working hard to have your child’s report ready for the end of this term. Each child and their well-being and progress matters to us and we spend many hours doing our very best to meet their diverse needs – socially, emotionally, intellectually, physically and spiritually.

Each family is different – different needs; different experiences and different issues. However all families want their children to reach their fullest potential as learners and to be the best person they can be. Together we need to help children grow to be strong, resilient, kind, assertive, empathetic and enthusiastic people ready to make a difference out in the world! By thinking the best of each other, praying for each other and speaking respectively about others and support others through the ups and downs of everyday life.

This morning the Years 3-6 children celebrated Mass with Fr Rodrigo who has a lovely manner with children and this provided another opportunity for students, staff and parents to deepen their relationships with Jesus. This liturgy was beautifully prepared by Miss Nish and Year 4B.

At Mass today we acknowledged and congratulated the Year 3, 4 and 6 students who have recently received the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist or Confirmation at their various parishes. Each of these Sacraments is an important milestone in the children’s faith journey and we look forward to seeing more photos in the weeks ahead. Once your child has received one of these Sacraments in your Parish, please send a copy of their certificate to school or feel free to scan a copy through to mcgann.tracey@johnxxiii.edu.au. Please keep all the candidates in your prayers at this special time of their lives.

Reconciliation Week runs until 3 June. This week the Year 3 and 4 students participated in a workshop run by Marissa from Bindi Bindi Dreaming. The students learnt some new words from the Aboriginal dialect that was traditionally used in the area of Mount Claremont and surrounds. Marissa shared some interesting stories about the different roles of people when they lived off the land. Marissa painted students’ faces with raw ochre and lead them in a traditional dance. Marissa was impressed with the great knowledge our students have about history of Indigenous Australians.

Enjoy the long week-end!

Kind regards
