This year at Kingswood, 24,680 nude food lunches were brought to school, 120 new colour-coded bins were installed, 600 bins of soft plastics were recycled, 2,080 bins of food scraps were composted and 40 Green Team lunchtime club sessions were held! What a wonderful year for making Kingswood a more sustainable school.
This year we have been working on reducing our waste as a school and earning the ‘waste star’ through the Resource Smart Schools program. The Green Team lunchtime club has been held every Wednesday. The Green Team have made videos to show at assembly, made new gardens around the school, created artwork from recycled materials and even decorated their own canvas supermarket bags.
We have participated in lots of community events including Clean-Up Australia Day, Plant a Tree Day and Environment Week. We won the Local Leader Grant, the Junior Landcare Biodiversity Grant and a grant to send students to the Kids Teaching Kids Sustainability Conference.
Next year our focus will be on biodiversity, including our exciting project of building vertical gardens around the school. We can’t wait!
