Library News

Library Link

The McCarthy Library offers a wide range of activities and resources to help students with their schoolwork and for relaxation and entertainment.

Displays

Book displays and featured works showcase some of what the library offers staff and students.

Our school library has some new recent displays of books.  A lot of people love binge-reading a series and can’t wait for the next book to be released.  One display features many of the popular series available including:

-the Ellie Chronicles

-Alex Rider

-Artemis Fowl

-Percy Jackson

-Gone

Another display reminds us that magical things can happen when we read a book. We are transported to another place or time. We get to experience:

Adventures

Romance

The future in sci-fi and dystopian worlds

See life from another person’s perspective in autobiographies

The serious and the funny side of life

10 reasons why the internet is no substitute for a Library    (link with IMAGE sent)

This is well worth reading. The non-fiction books in our library have been selected to support the syllabuses and subjects taught at McCarthy and are specifically targeted at certain year levels such as a  junior book on Medieval Europe and a senior biology book on Cells.

There is quality control in what we purchase and in the website appearing in the Oliver library catalogue which have been carefully selected to support students whereas  the internet has no filters or quality control as to the accuracy of the information it provides.

Device-free Days are coming to the McCarthy Library in Term 3

Starting in Term 3, one lunch per week any students in the main area of the library will not be able to use any electronic device (including computers, Chromebooks and mobile phones).  Students who need to complete homework or assessment tasks will be able to do so in the Senior Study area.

We will be providing games, a lego challenge, colouring-in mindfulness activities and books to read.

Chess Club

The Chess Club is continuing on Fridays at lunchtime in the AV Room within the library.  It is supervised by staff and all are welcome. So whether you don't know how to play and want to learn, are a beginner or an "expert" please come along.
