Catholic Schools’ Week

Catholic Schools' Week (CSW) 2019 will be held from 26 May to 1 June and will involve the communities of all Catholic primary and secondary schools across the Diocese of Armidale. The theme for CSW 2019 is ‘Mission, Learn, Care’.

Enrolment Information Evenings

The first of the compulsory Year 7 Parent and Student Enrolment evenings was conducted on Tuesday evening. Applicants for Year 7, 2020 from Armidale Diocesan Primary Schools, and/or siblings of currently enrolled McCarthy students, attended and received a clear message about values, expectations and opportunities available at McCarthy Catholic College. Another information evening for the above group will be held this evening in the College Hall:

Thursday 23 May from 5:45pm - 6:45pm

Applicants from other schools will be contacted for face-to-face interviews in the coming weeks.

NAPLAN

While the media reported some ‘technical glitches’ for NAPLAN 2019, I am pleased to report that the NAPLAN Online experience for Year 7 and 9 students was a  smooth one. Students had been well familiarised with the requirements during practice tests and were very comfortable with the electronic format. We now await the results and anticipate a pattern of growth in literacy and numeracy, both individually and as a year cohort.

Athletics Carnival Finale

Last Friday we experienced an exciting and fitting conclusion to the 2019 Athletics Carnival. After a close competition at the TRECC, the final result came down to the relays. The House spirit evident was a great way to finalise the competition and the week. Congratulations to all the House Captains and to all the students in Edmund Rice. Mr Mitchell will have a full account later in this newsletter.

Debutante Ball

Best wishes to the Year 12 students who will be presented at the St Nicholas’ Parish Catholic Debutante Ball on Friday 31 May. After many weeks of practice, the students and their partners are looking forward to the glamour of the ball. Similarly, we are looking forward to seeing young McCarthy men and women, and their families, enjoy a wonderful night.

Welcome

We welcome the following students to the McCarthy community: Elma Jinu (Year 7) and Khang Tran (Year 11).  As a community, we hope that their  transition has been a smooth one and that they are enjoying the McCarthy community.
