Dear Parents
A very warm welcome back to what will once again be a very busy term! Additional events this term include a disco, Movie Under the Stars, Footsteps Dance, Year 4-6 recreation sports, Christmas Concert, 2020 Meet The Teacher and Year 6 celebratory events to name a few. We will communicate further information about these events via the newsletter and Facebook.
Are you aware of what your children do online?
PBSS is hosting a free ThinkUKnow 90 minute parent information session on Tuesday 22nd October at 1pm in our hall (The PAC) and all parents are encouraged to attend. Students in Years 3 & 4 (10-10.45am) and Years 5 & 6 (9-10am) will be attending a student session of ThinkUKNow on the morning of Tuesday 22nd October. A permission note is being sent home with your child today.
ThinkUKnow Australia is a cyber safety education program that educates parents, carers and teachers of how people are using technology, the challenges they may face online, and how to help them overcome these in a safe and ethical way.
ThinkUKnow Australia is a partnership between the Australian Federal Police, Microsoft Australia, Datacom and the Commonwealth Bank. The program is delivered in collaboration with policing partners New South Wales Police Force, Northern Territory Police, Queensland Police, South Australia Police, Tasmania Police, Western Australia Police, as well as Neighbourhood Watch Australasia.
The presentation will be delivered by a local law enforcement member and an industry volunteer. The presentation covers issues relating to children and young peoples’ privacy and security online, their relationships with other users and their online reputation. It provides insight into the devices young people are using, as well as the popular websites, apps and social networking sites they’re accessing.
This is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn more about young people and the online environment, and how you can help them to be safe and responsible users of technology.
For more information, you can visit www.thinkuknow.org.au.
Please register your attendance via the note sent home with your child, or contact our school office. On registration you will be provided with a free parent guide.
Website Upgrade
Over the past few months we have been working on an upgrade to our Palm Beach State School website. This will 'go live' in late October. We look forward to this improved version of the website in our continued efforts to communicate all that is PBSS.
2020 Booklists and School Fees
The 2020 Booklists and School Fees will be sent home in Week 3 of this term via email and a paper version with your child. In our support for local businesses and your convenience, Palm Beach Newsagency will again be providing the book packs via an ordering system. Order details and an explanation of the school fees will be attached to the booklist.
Jewellery
We appreciate your ongoing support of all PBSS rules and policies. Lately, a lot of jewellery has been noticeable, especially in the younger year levels. A reminder of our PBSS Dress Code and Uniform policy concerning jewellery ...
- General JEWELLERY is not appropriate at school and is not permitted eg necklaces, rings, wrist bands, anklets etc
- Students may wear a watch.
- Students with pierced ears may wear plain gold or silver studs or sleepers. No other facial piercings are permitted.
Student Free Day - Monday 21st October
A reminder that there is NO SCHOOL next Monday 21st October as it is a Student Free Day. This day is held each year in conjunction with the high schools who are required to moderation on this date.
World Teacher's Day - Friday October 25th
Every day, Queensland teachers are making a positive difference – creating opportunities for their students, empowering minds of young people and proudly teaching our state's future leaders, innovators and influencers.
World Teachers' Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and thank Queensland teachers for the important role they play across our state – inside our classrooms and out in the community.
Celebrated in more than 100 countries world-wide, World Teachers' Day was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1994 to recognise the role of teachers in society.
World Teachers' Day is held internationally on 5 October. As the day usually falls during school holidays, Queensland holds its celebrations on the last Friday of October each year. In 2019, World Teachers' Day will be celebrated in Queensland on Friday 25 October. Please take the time to thank your child's teacher :)
Kind regards
Sandra Thompson
