Assistant Principal's Report

Senior School

It’s hard to believe that we are already approaching the end of first term. Although it has been a relatively short term, much has been achieved. The first round of Progress Reports have been distributed and Redemption support classes were held for students whose progress was of concern. Reports are also available via the Daymap Parent Portal. It is vital that students do not fall behind with their studies at this early stage of the year and every effort needs to be made to complete and submit unfinished work. As well as doing this at home, students are encouraged to attend after school classes where further assistance and support is available for students. These classes run in the Library each Wednesday and Thursday.

I also urge parents to attend upcoming parent-teacher interviews with students where meaningful conversations with teachers take place about student progress and strategies for further improvement. The date for this is the 19th of April. Booking details will be made available shortly. Parents can also contact teachers directly via Daymap or by email if they need to.

I would also like to remind students and parents that it is important to have correct uniform ready as the cooler months approach. This includes a school jumper and Dromana College logo jacket. Other jackets and hoodies are not permitted.

Important Uniform Reminder

We have reminded all students that our uniform will be consistently applied in term 2 in relation to school socks, shoes and jackets. A period of grace was allowed in relation to socks and some shoes in Term 1, however students have been advised that correct uniform must be worn from the beginning of Term 2.

As per our published uniform policy:

  • socks must be navy, black or white ankle or knee length (no logos, brand names or designs are permitted).
  • boys’ shoes must be black lace-up leather school shoes- no skate, sport or surf shoes (therefore must have a heel)
  • girls’ shoes: black lace-up leather school shoes or T-bars (fully laced or buckled)
  • jacket: wind/shower proof with College logo (hoodies and any other jackets are not permitted)

We would appreciate the support and cooperation of all parents/guardians in ensuring that all students abide by our uniform policy. This will help to avoid unnecessary conversations with students and possibly parents/guardians as well as ensuing consequences for refusal to comply with uniform requirements.

In the event that financial circumstances prevent the wearing of correct uniform, please contact your child’s Head Of Year or Head of Welfare, Mrs Brooke Mollenkopf.

Finally I wish all students and families a safe and relaxing Easter break.

Professional Learning

In term one, teachers have attended VCE data sessions discussing our excellent results from last year but also looking for gaps to continually improve. Teachers have also attended the Examiner Report sessions that give general feedback and information on last year's exam. Work has also been undertaken on the new study designs in the Sciences, English and Mathematics and History. A great deal of Professional Learning also takes  place in Domain Meetings for the various subject areas during meeting times where teachers develop curriculum and assessments in teams.

Teachers and some Educational Support Staff have just finished the first four hour courses offered this year: the choice of courses covered at ICT innovation, Effective Learning, The Diverse Classroom, Student Leadership and Daymap training for new staff. Next term, staff have a choice from: ICT for VCE, Running Effective Excursions, First Aid, Excel Spreadsheets for data and once again ICT innovation or Effective Learning. We are looking at how these courses impact positively upon work done in the classroom with students.
