Principal's Report

Reflecting on the term, we saw our students actively participating in a range of student voice activities, which gave them the opportunity to feed into and shape their learning. We also saw students participating in events and representing the College.

This week prospective VCAL students participated in group interviews to demonstrate their commitment to undertaking the VCAL program in 2020.  This was a great opportunity for these young people to hone their communication and presentation skills and to share their vision for their own learning. We are also in the process of seeking our school leaders for 2020 and students will be applying in writing and undertaking interviews to determine capacity and suitability for these very important roles.  Students participated in RUOK? Day, this week, which was a great success. Days like this serve as reminders to us to check in with our family, friends and colleagues to see how they are going.

Our Interact students are actively engaged with the Greensborough Rotary Club. This week the student Rotarians of the Month, Allanah Griffin and Victoria Beaumont, addressed the Rotary Club and spoke about what they have learned as Interactors. The Interact Club regularly hosts visitors from Rotary at our school and I would like to acknowledge the support Heather Dear has given the students to find their voice in our community.

The Presentation Ball was another successful event for the school community.  This event is also a highly supported tradition and rite of passage for our young men and women.  A lot of work goes into the organisation by, Anna Ciavarella and Cathy Angelovski.  I would also like to thank Jenny Hammond and Sharon Shaw for their behind the scenes work with the bookings and finances and the Official Party, Michelle Molinaro, Paul Meager and Glenn Jenner for contributing to the event.

So much goes on in a school throughout a term so I would like to thank and congratulate all students who contributed to the broader school community program and represented the College for special events and on excursions.

Our Year 12 students are about to complete their schooling here at Greensborough College. There is much to be celebrated in the achievement of parents who have nurtured their children through thirteen years of schooling as there is to celebrate with the achievements of our students.  Our Valedictory Dinner in November will give us this opportunity to celebrate as a community.

In the lead up to the VCE exams I encourage all students to take up the opportunities to attend revision classes being held during the school holidays, to work hard and to give it everything they have got in this final sprint.  For the VCAL students, you will be finalising course work and preparing your pathways.

We will be celebrating this rite of passage in a number of ways with the students and their teachers. Our expectations of all during these celebrations remains high. The celebrations offer students the chance to reflect, reminisce and farewell.  In doing so, we expect that our College values of Courage, Aspiration, Respect and Equality are exemplified at all times. I encourage parents to talk to your sons and daughters about ensuring that this milestone in their lives is memorable for the right reasons.

Information will be sent to families soon about Celebration Week.  The school and staff are here to support you and your child in these final weeks.   I extend my best wishes to all students completing the schooling and to the VCE students throughout the exam period.

Staffing

Welcome to new staff members, Jacqueline Melia, who is teaching Italian and Instrumental Music teacher, Hannah Savige.

Next term we will welcome Callum Harber who will be teaching music and drama.

Leighton O’Donnell will return from his Principal internship and resume his Leading Teacher role at the College.

Term Break

I would like to wish staff, students and families a very restful term break.  I hope you enjoy quality time with family and friends and that the Year 12 students give themselves the best chance for their upcoming exams by balancing work and play.
