Next Reunion Confirmed

Dear friends from Preshil,

We are organising another reunion in October at Preshil for ex-students born up to about 1965, teachers and parents of those students, and anyone else connected with the school who might be interested.

Once again this will consist of a couple of hours of remembering old friendships and classmates, and looking at pictures, documents and artworks from the Preshil archives. There will be time to have a tour of the school if you wish. Refreshments are provided. A donation would be appreciated towards the refreshments and in aid of the ongoing project to index and store the school archives.

DATE: Monday 16 October 2017

TIME: 1.30pm to 3.30pm

PLACE: The Kevin Borland Hall, 395 Barkers Road, Kew

Replies will be accepted at any time. We look forward to another very happy reunion.

Yours very sincerely,

Libby Shade (formerly Grierson)

Peter Austin Visits Arlington

by Libby Shade née Grierson

A recent visitor to the school was former teacher Peter Austin. He shared a large number of memories about the climbing frame at Blackhall and many other aspects of school life. The building of the bottom level of the climbing frame commented in 1979; the frame was 1.8 metres high and the platform consisted of recycled tyres bolted together. It was constructed with block and tackle, pulleys and ropes, with the help of all the children, and was designed at their request to be high, scary and skill-based. The top layer, constructed later, was 4 metres off the ground, and consisted of treated pine planks. To climb up, there were ropes in the trees, and you swung from there to the first or second level. The whole construction took about 5 years. Peter's knowledge of the school from 1975 to 2008 is enormous and his contribution to school memories is very welcome. Perhaps other ex-pupils and teachers would like to share memories as well, or come back for a visit

Greta's Niece: Ann Lyttle Visits

By  Felicity Renowden

On Thursday 22 June some special people visited Arlington -  Ann Lyttle, Penny Graham, Ann’s daughter, and Sasha, Penny’s daughter.-three generations of Lyttles!

Ann’s aunt, Margaret (Greta) Lyttle founded the School which is named after her, and Ann  and her family grew up hearing about Auntie Greta’s school Preshil in Kew. Ann had visited forty years ago and this was another visit in her older years. Also there to welcome the ladies was Jan Lyttle, niece of Margaret (Mug).

Penny wrote : “It was both moving and wonderfully special to be welcomed into an historically important part of our lives...... There is a familial magic about Preshil.”

Nerel had the fire going in the sitting room (thanks Nerel) and there we sat and talked, looked at photos and portraits. We walked around Arlington and  felt the spirit of the two Margarets.

Alumni Stories

Do you have a story to share with your fellow classmates? Perhaps a new business venture, a special achievement or a fond memory? If you would like to share something with the wider community, please email us at alumni@preshil.vic.edu.au

Photos are always welcomed!

Reminder

The archives room is now fully operational, although rather crowded! We are bringing together small groups of ex-parents, teachers and students to help identify the many photographs we have found. Once dated and if possible named, these can be grouped into separate folders and filed for future access. There are many beautiful school photo albums on our shelves. Wednesday morning is the time to come in for a chat if you are interested.
