Library News

Welcome to St Joseph’s College Resource Centre

This week in the Library

We have been busy learning some AI tech tricks using Chat GPT. What is Chat GPT you ask?

ChatGPT is a natural language processing tool driven by AI technology that allows you to have human-like conversations and much more with the chatbot. The language model can answer questions and assist you with tasks like composing emails, essays, and code.

Here in the Library, we wanted to test this new-found technology and see whether it could help us with the Newsletter entry. This is what it came up with based on our other entries and similar text-types from the internet and beyond!

Dear students, parents, and faculty,

We hope this newsletter finds you well and that the start of the new semester has been smooth for everyone. We would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the exciting things happening in our school library.

Firstly, we are proud to announce that our library has expanded its collection with a range of new books and resources, including several highly anticipated titles that we know our students will love. We encourage everyone to come and browse the shelves, find something new to read, and perhaps even discover a new favorite author.

In addition to our physical collection, we also have a growing digital library. Our online resources offer a wealth of information.

We have also been working hard to create a more engaging and interactive library experience. Our library now offers various events, such as clubs and workshops that cater to the diverse interests of our students. We believe these events help foster a love of reading and lifelong learning.

Furthermore, we encourage students to take advantage of the various tools and services offered by our library. Our friendly librarians are always available to help with research, citation, and any questions about our collection or digital resources.

Finally, we would like to remind everyone that our library is a safe and welcoming space for all students. It is a place where students can explore new worlds, gain knowledge, and connect with like-minded individuals.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our school library. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Now isn’t that something?!

Our New Librarian

As you may know, The Library has welcomed an amazing new Librarian - Ms Emily Lynch.

Ms Lynch joins us from The Mornington Peninsula and is excited about a river change to join her extended family in northern Victoria. She will be the librarian at the new Kildare Campus.

Here is a brief introduction of Ms Lynch:

What is your academic background?

I have just completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Library Science and have been working as a librarian while I studied for the past two years.

Interesting fact about you?

I lived in Bandung, Indonesia for six months during my university studies and can speak some Bahasa Indonesia.

Why libraries? What led you to library work?

During COVID I was faced with the question of what career should I chose and so I decided to pursue Librarianship as it suits my skill set and my personality.

Favourite food?

Pavlova with all the toppings!

Favorite book (of course we have to ask this of our library staff!)

I love investigative journalism and the non fiction books that eventuate from events, my favorite non-fiction read would be Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup, by journalist John Carreyrou and for fiction, you can't go past a good mystery, The Maid by Nita Prose.

Easter and ANZAC Day

Here are some of our latest library displays to represent these important dates as well as the wonderful books associated with the topics.

Enjoy a safe and happy holiday everyone!

And KEEP READING!
