Humanities Student of the Fortnight

Here at St Joseph’s College, we love to celebrate the awesome achievements and growth of our students and our Humanities faculty would like to showcase some individuals who are currently starring in their subjects.

Today’s Humanities superstar focus is on Year 11 Legal Studies student, Tighe Cole. Tighe has been working hard in Legal Studies this year and made some exceptional growth in his learning and understanding of legal studies and his approaches to his assessment tasks.

Here are his responses to his Year 11 Legal teacher, Jess Oliver’s questions:

So Tighe, a big congratulations to you first up! This is the second year in a row I have taught you for legal and this year you have started very strong.

What have you found different in the way you have approached your Legal Studies in Year 10 to Year 11?

In Year 10, the topics and subject information were a lot more simplified, where as in Year 11, it's more complex but that's more fun as I get to understand it better.

What are you enjoying the most about our course? What have been some highlights? Learning about real-world scenarios the law applies to (e.g. murder trials). A highlight has been getting to be the crown prosecutor in the mock trial.

What advice would you offer for our younger students in terms of your study routine? Do all the work in class and review it when you get home to ensure you remember it all.

What does typical SAC preparation look like for you?

Looking over all the work we did over the term and looking at VCAA to see if I know all the subject key knowledge. Also doing all the SAC prep the teacher gives me.

How do you “push through” motivational slumps? We all have them. So, what is your secret?

Setting time for relaxing and setting time to do work. Splitting the two helps get work done and relax later.

“To study Legal Studies, or to not study Legal Studies? That is the question!” Discuss! Study Legal Studies!! I definitely recommend doing Legal Studies as it's a really fun class and much more interesting than most of my other classes.

Thanks so much for your responses Tighe! And congrats on your efforts so far and best wishes for your year ahead with your studies!
