Flourishing In 2023

5/6 CYC City Camp 2023

In the last week of Term 1, students from the 5/6 Learning Space ventured to Melbourne for an overnight stay at CYC City Camp. Students left early on Monday the 3rd of April from St. Joseph's and arrived at camp to check in their luggage at 10am. Over the course of two days, students explored the streets of Melbourne and took part in a range of activities including Rock Climbing, Ten Pin Bowling, Queen Victoria Market and ACMI - The Story of the Moving Image. After two very busy days in the city and a lot of new memories, the 5/6 students got back on the bus on Tuesday the 4th of April and started the journey back home. Here are some highlights of CYC City Camp from the 5/6 students.

"My favourite highlight of camp was bowling with my friends. I got a strike and a lot of spares. Bowling was awesome!

The funniest part about camp was the Queen Vic market. I only had 1 dollar left so I was looking for ages for something that was cheap when I came across a guy who said he would give me a discount for a ten dollar turtle. So I actually got a hard figurine turtle worth $10 for only $1! Such a bargain- The Queen Vic market was awesome!

On Camp we also went rock climbing. I was so scared to climb up the giant rock wall but I actually made it to the top. Rock climbing was great! When we were walking through Melbourne I loved looking at all the artwork on the streets and the buildings were very high up. CYC city was the best!!" Jack F

"My major highlight from camp was probably bowling because it was really fun. I also enjoyed just hoping I would get a strike because I kept getting really close. It was also intense because everyone wanted to win and it came very close, in the end Pia won.

The funniest bit of camp was when I was playing pokemon and I kept losing because I didn’t have the best cards. But one round I didn’t do too bad until Jack pulled out his best card and I was like wow because I lost in seconds. Another funny moment was when we were on the seesaw all swinging.

A fear I overcame in camp was when I was climbing up the rock climbing wall and I got really high but my hands started hurting so I was scared I was gonna fall and the person lowering me wouldn’t be ready. It all worked out well though and I learnt a new skill.

One thing that surprised me was when we walked into the room we were staying at and I was surprised how nice the place was. Also for dinner I was really surprised how the burgers were so good." James B

"My major highlight from camp was rock climbing because it is one of my many sports I love to do and it is a fun sport and it is challenging.

I also enjoyed bowling at camp because I have a lot of memories of bowling with family and friends at birthdays. I absolutely love bowling and I won when we were on camp.

I was put out of my comfort zone by being in the city with a big group of people from school as well as being in public where there are lots of people.

I never really go to the city so it was very surprising seeing all of the big buildings and happenings in the city." Pia

"My major highlight from camp was bowling because my group had lots of fun moments and I enjoyed playing. In my team, Pia managed to get the only strike although James and I got a spare.

The funniest part of camp was when the whole class went on the big seesaw and half of us were falling off. On the bus we chanted for maccas and everyone was chanting peoples names.

Some fears that I overcame were heights because when we did rock climbing I went higher than I usually do in rock climbing.

One thing in camp that was surprising was how big the buildings were and how they were so old. Also there were so many cars and buses in the city compared to at home." Atlas
