Science

This week in Science:

This term in science years 3/4 and 5/6 students commenced exploring states of matter and their physical properties: solid, liquid, gas and plasma.

During this week’s lesson, students designed an experiment to compare how three different solids (sugar, sand and flour) behaved when mixed with water. They needed to consider how to ensure the test was fair by controlling all but the variable (the different solids).

Before conducting the experiment students made predictions about what would happen immediately after the solid was added to the water, and then after 5 minutes.

Many students were surprised to discover something different to what they predicted.
