Manage impulsivity!
This is when I think before I do:
Should I be talking?
Have I followed an instruction?
Am I raising my hand and waiting for my name to be called?
Am I on task?

Ready to Learn Ready to Play
St Joseph’s promotes healthy, safe and active lifestyles and encourages students to engage in fun and social playground activities. Running games are permitted where it is safe to do so, typically the park and grass areas. Chasing games like tip are not encouraged due to safety reasons.
We have a number of playground games for students to use during Break 1 and 2 along with popular lunchtime activities and passive play in the library. The variety of activities provides the opportunity for all students to engage in play based activities to develop and practise their social emotional skills learnt within the class environment.
On the basketball court students have the opportunity to practise basketball and netball skills or play handball.
On the concrete area students engage in skipping or playing handball. Jenga, Dominoes and Checkers are also provided.
On the western end of the grass area, students can use stilts, play passing games, bucket ball, hula hoop or skip. Students also have elastics and quoits. On the eastern end of the grass area students can play passing games, skip, hula hoop, use the stilts, climbing frames, tunnels as well as play quoits.
On the adventure playground, students have access to the climbing ropes, rope ladder, slides, sandpit and wooden obstacle course.
At the park, students engage in major games aligned to the PDHPE Syllabus such as soccer and cricket games. Students can also have the opportunity for skipping, playing elastics or kicking footballs.
We have also introduced Term 2 activities for students to engage in under the supervision of a teacher. Robotics, Chess and Origami are examples of popular lunch time activities.
Home Reading - K-6
Home reading has commenced for Kindergarten which is very exciting. It has also re-commenced for Year 1 through to Year 6. Thank you to all students and parents who have established positive routines to ensure home reading is being completed from Monday to Thursday with book titles being recorded each night in the Home Reading Logs or student diaries (Year 6). These are then returned to school on a Friday so teachers can monitor the reading and text selection.
Did you know that researchers discovered that reading for 20 minutes a day means a student will read about 1.8 million words a year? This highlights the importance of daily reading, so your support is greatly appreciated and will benefit your child.
Walk Safely to School Day
St Joseph's will be celebrating and acknowledging 'Walk Safely to School Day' on Friday 19 May. This is a community initiative that aims to raise awareness of the health, road safety, transport, and environmental benefits that regular walking (especially to and from school) can provide for the long term well-being of our children.
On Friday 19 May (Week 4) we encourage families to walk together to school or park the car and walk part of the way to school. Some St Joseph's staff members will be meeting on the grass area near Bulli Beach Cafe at 8:20 am. We invite students to meet the teachers here and walk safely to school together! Parents are encouraged to join us to walk safely to school with the staff and students.
National Simultaneous Storytime
On Wednesday 24 May St Joseph’s will be participating in the National Simultaneous Storytime. On this day many schools, libraries, childcare centres, bookshops, preschools and more participate by reading the same book at 11am. This year the book is The Speedy Sloth written by Rebecca Young and illustrated by Heath McKenzie.
We are excited to celebrate this day with a special reading and performance by the staff of St Joseph.
