Possums

The Possum group have been noticing lots of changes in the weather lately! We have started looking at a calendar, noticing friend's birthdays and what day of the week it is. We also use our calendar to observe the weather, which sometimes changes multiple times a day! This week the Possum group cheered on some of the big school children as they ran their cross country. Some of them had to run in the rain!

When the weather is wet at kinder we are lucky to have a covered sandpit area so we can still go outside to play. Tobias noticed our tank was overflowing, and got a bucket to catch the overflow. This soon turned into Tobias and Nellie having a shower at Kinder! Their joy as they got soaking wet and ran around in the rain like the "cross country kids" was palpable. The other children were happy to watch and laugh but preferred to stay dry!

We are also able to enjoy active play in the wet weather when we visit the gym. The Kinder children love using the resources in the school gym, and Mrs Missen always has plenty of new and creative ideas of games to play. The photos of the gym today were taken by some of the Possum children. We enjoy watching the changing seasons at kinder and remember that "there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens" (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

Wombats

The children in the Wombat group have had a wonderful start to Term 2. On their first day it was lovely to see the children arrive eager to see their friends and participate in our Teddy Bears Picnic. During indoor activities the children had the opportunity to complete bear puzzles, read bear books, paste pieces of little bears together and enjoy tiny bear figurines at the play dough table. They also each carefully iced and decorated their own teddy bear biscuit to enjoy together later in the day. At group time we watched a video clip of a Teddy Bears Picnic, sang Rock-A-Bye Your Bear and Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear Turn Around. It was a ‘beary’ enjoyable day!

Echidnas

The Echidna Group have been excited to return to Kinder after their break. To begin the term we are focusing on our feelings and exploring the Zones of Regulation. As we grow together and experience joys and conflicts, we learn to recognise and name our feelings and needs. Then we can use strategies that help us to self regulate, whichever zone we are in.

The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self control. Against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23.

One thing the children have been sharing together is a mutual Barbie Doll interest. Barbies have been coming along to Kinder and having all kinds of adventures! We made some skirts and dresses for our Barbies. It has been lovely to watch children forming friendships through their interests and inviting others to join in.

Last week we marked ANZAC Day and did some baking. We loved measuring and stirring the ingredients, but eating the ANZAC biscuits was the best part. We explored concepts of social justice, of looking out for our mates and helping others.

The wild weather this week has been exciting and on a rainy day we visited the school gym for the first time. We tried out some new hockey equipment, and we played some fast-paced group games and relays that we have practiced at Kinder. It was great having so much space to run around in as the wind howled outside!
