Forging Australia's Identity

We will be exploring Australia's changes over time, starting with the meaning of colonisation, moving to strengthening their understanding of the life of a convict and investigating colonisation from Aboriginal perspectives. Our children will learn about the different reasons migrant groups and individuals came to Australia, and investigate how Australian society has changed over time due to immigration. 

Some questions we will delve into are :

1. What do we know about the lives of people in Australia’s colonial past and how do we know this?
2. How did an Australian colony develop over time and why?
3. Why and how did Australia become a nation?
4. Who were the people who came to Australia? Why did they come here?

Towards the end of the Term, we will all explore a personal area of interest from the unit. Teachers look forward to seeing how our children present their knowledge to their peers.
