Mathematics Term 2

Our focus for Term 2 is applying the concepts of understanding numbers and how to use them in order to problem solve across other domains. We will be looking at Measurement as a study of Time, Distance, Mass, Volume and Capacity.

We will be studying Geometry, by exploring Shapes through enlargement and shrinking as well as transformations via manipulation and tessellations. The students will also explore the relationship between two dimensional and three dimensional objects by creating representations including models.

We will also be investigating Fractions in our Statistics and Probability unit.

Our approach is teaching at the point of need. Therefore, we may employ individual or group exploration or systematic explicit teaching of concepts and specific ‘Clinic Groups’ to either scaffold or extend. We will also explore different 'proficiencies', determining if the concept we are investigating is helping to build our understanding, fluency, problem solving or reasoning skills. Some concepts will use some or all of the proficiencies.
