Dylan Wiliam Presentation

On 25 and 26 May, Dylan William (PhD), world class educator and researcher, will be visiting Frankston High School. In addition to working with staff to develop a whole school approach to improving classroom practice, we are excited to announce he will also be making his expertise available to Frankston High School parents.

You are invited to attend a presentation by Dylan Wiliam:  How do we prepare our children for a world we cannot imagine?

Children beginning school this year are likely still to be working in the final quarter of the 21st Century. This means that no matter how much they learn at school, it will not be enough, because most of what they need to know for their lives—both inside and outside the world of work—has not been discovered or invented yet. And while there are those who claim to be able to predict what kinds of skills will be needed in the future, the truth is we just do not know. The idea that children should learn how to learn used to be an optional extra; now it is a survival skill. Science, technology and mathematics will be important in the future, but so will subjects like music, drama, dance, and art, partly because they play a role in helping people live fulfilled lives, but also because these subjects emphasize creativity more than other subjects, and creativity is the one thing we know machines cannot do.

In this presentation, Dylan will outline the role of parents to ensure that their children take control over their lives, appreciate their culture, make a difference in the world, and find rewarding work.

Seeking Host Families for French Students

Frankston High School has 10 French students arriving from our sister school, Lycee Jean Zay, for eight weeks for their annual visit to our school. Their expected arrival is Wednesday, 24 June and departure Monday, 24 August 2015.

We encourage all Frankston High School students to consider hosting one of our French visitors during one or more of the following periods:

Wednesday, 24 June – Friday, 24 July 2015 (includes school holidays)

Friday, 24 July – Monday 24 August 2015

Please indicate preferences

on the French Host Family form attached.

The French students are 16-17 years old and will attend Year 10 or Year 11 classes with their own timetable.  They do not need their own room and school books, lockers and uniforms are supplied.

Past host families have found the cultural experience rewarding, enjoyable and has assisted with the study of the French language.

We will be relying on the generosity of host families to provide food and accommodation.

Attached is a French Host Family form to complete and return to either the 7-10 General Office or Senior Office .  A Working with Children Check information form is included (if applicable).

Please contact Anne Thomson on 0409 835 541 or email athomso@fhs.vic.edu.au for further information.
