Term 1 Science

We have had such a busy term with our focus on Biological Sciences!

Our Prep students have enjoyed learning our science routine! After our big climb up the stairs to the science room they have enjoyed learning about living things and discovering that living things can move, breathe and reproduce! They participated in the design process, drawing a ‘pet’ they would like and then making that pet. They then discussed what their pet needed to survive!

Our year 1/2 students have had such a busy term! In science teams they worked together to build a structure for a local living thing! They discovered that animals live in lots of different habitats and that animals have features which help them survive in those environments!

Our year 3/4 students have discovered that we can group living things based on their observable features. They have done a fantastic job of classifying different animals (such as mammals, reptiles and amphibians) and together we created a new planet ‘Zog’ deciding which animals could live there!

Our year 5/6 students have learnt all about adaptations. To begin our unit we completed a scientific investigation involving humans opposable thumbs. We discovered our thumbs are very  important to help us complete simple daily tasks!  We then looked into the different animal and plant adaptations and researched why animals and plants look and behave the way they do!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter break with their families and I look forward to seeing everyone back in term 2!
