Our Walk Around Preston

On Tuesday, 2nd May, Foundation, Year 1/2, some teachers and parents, went for a walk around Preston to learn about our local community. It was a very fun experience looking at the different shops, cultures and transport. We loved walking around Preston and can’t wait to go on another walk very soon.

Year 2/3

We have been learning about Chance. And we have been learning about a game called ‘Greedy Pig’.   Laura

It’s really fun playing ‘Greedy Pig’. Everytime the dice rolls on the number 2, all the students who are still standing are all out because they are all greedy pigs. Chloe D.

We play a game of Chance call ‘Greedy Pig’. Everybody has to stand up and when Marie rolls the dice, you add that number in your head. If the number 2 comes up, everyone who is still standing is out. The winner is the last person who hasn’t sat down because they weren’t a greedy pig.   Arvin and Viraj

We have been learning all about Chance and Probability. Some of the words to do with Chance and Probability are equal chance, maybe, likely, impossible and fifty/fifty chance.   Emma

I like learning about Chance and Probability because it’s all about guessing and I like guessing. Some words I know about Chance are fifty/fifty chance, zero chance, impossible and equal chance.   Katalina

In maths we're learning about Chance and Probability. We play some games that help us to learn more about Chance. Certain means that something is definitely going to happen. Impossible means that there is zero chance that something is going to happen. Equal chance means it may or it may not happen. We like learning about chance.  Kushi and Eva

Year 5/6

Inquiry

This term the 5/6 students are looking at the theme of COMMUNITY, both local and global. By exploring global communities' needs and wants,  the students will discover the uneven distribution of wealth and resources in our world.

As an introduction to our unit, the students were asked the open ended question "What could I NOT live without?' They then listed their top 9 and used a Diamond to rank their choices. Below are some responses and the reasoning behind why they ranked them the way they did.

Roery ~ Rain is important for us to make crops that feed us. I chose heat because, when it is winter, we need to keep warm so we can survive. I think that transportation is important so we can travel from place to place.

Chen ~ I chose air as my number one because without air gravity would not be able to work and we would not be able to survive. Water and doctors were my next choices because water is part of our daily basic needs,  as doctors recommend drinking 1.25 litres per day. Without doctors we would not be able to be born and they also provide us with medicine when we get sick.

Connor

I chose food as my number one most important thing because food is important and you can't survive your whole life without it. And my second choice is water because it's the same as food because you can't survive that long without it. And my third choice is medicine because if you're sick medicine will help you get healthier.

Onella ~ I chose family and friends because they care about us a lot and we have them for our own comfort. If you need any help you can just ask them. I chose it because I love them a lot. I chose food and water because without them you would starve and you cannot live without water; it is a must! I also chose clothes because they cover us and keep us warm.

Amelia ~ I chose water as my top survival need because your body is 75% water and without water you would not live for very long and you would be very dehydrated if you ate salty foods all the time. Nature is my second choice and I chose it because without nature there is no ecosystem which then causes droughts, bad weather and climate change.
