Music Excursion - Ms. Beth Winterhalter

On the 17th of March, the Senior Music students participated in an excursion to the Gippsland Tech School in Morwell. Our group was greeted by a robot that talked to us and answered questions. The students thought this was most impressive. The facilities at the TAFE were well-resourced and provided a detailed educational experience for our group.

The day consisted of two very informative and creative sessions. The first session allowed students to explore and understand what diegetic and non-diegetic sound is and apply their knowledge of both as sound designers.

In the first session, the students became Foley Artists and explored sound sources, recorded sounds, and developed a sound bank using iPads and recording devices.

The second session allowed students to explore technology, how it can be used to create digital music, and how technology is changing music creation.

Students designed and developed digital music to accompany a short silent film clip. They used the sound bank that was created in the earlier session to add sound effects to their silent film. The result was a short film with all music and sound effects created and sequenced by the students. The technology students used on the day was iPads, computers, Ableton Software, SoundCloud and iMovie to create their masterpieces.
