WHAT'S HAPPENING @ SCSC

In The Green Room
Hello students, parents, staff and school community,
As we are unable to perform the 2020 Addam’s Family school production, SCSC is excited to announce a double year of Tonight In the Green Room! This production is a space for our students to express themselves and provide entertainment to our school community sometime during term 4. Tonight In the Green Room is a ticketed event so auditions are necessary. Are you a singer, songwriter, dancer, actor, magician or comedian interested in sharing your talent? Think you could be a lively, funny host for this event?
If so, please contact the corresponding Performing Arts teacher to learn more.
Miss Powers (powers.sarah.s@scsc.vic.edu.au)- drama, comedy acts, magicians, hosts
Mr. Lacey (lacey.daniel.s@scsc.vic.gov.au)- singers
Miss Brennan (brennan.rachael.r@scsc.vic.gov.au)- dancers
Mr. Jones (jones.evan.s@scsc.vic.gov.au)- musicians/bands

7/11 - Award
It has been a while since we handed out this Year 11 award, what better time than now that the quarantine is starting to be lifted. In case you have forgotten, we randomly select one Year 11 student from the 7 students with the most positive postcards, hence the 7/11 title. In random order the students with the most Compass Postcards in the last 2 months are: Riley Beecham, Gemma Kouhi, Jess Bates, Chiana Emmett-Dabu, Joel Maibaum, Ryder Merriman, Elliot Rankin, Jack Shing, Pippa Speldewinde, Trinity Hutchinson, Mia Clayden, Noah Clifford and Indiana Colledge (a few more have been added as there was a tie for third place).
And the winner selected at random is: Joel Maibaum.
7E - Online Excursion
On Tuesday the 19th of May, 7E participated in an online excursion using Webex to speak with the staff at Ecolinc. They learnt about dichotomous keys and how to classify animals based on their features. Students looked at the skulls of some Australian animals and practised categorising different types of animals by thinking about their features. The other Year 7 classes will get the chance to participate in this excursion on the 9th and 10th of June.
Thanks,
Mr Watson

Library News
Looking forward to seeing you all returning shortly!
There are a lot of new books ready and waiting for you on your return. Please return all books borrowed and if you are still reading them and would like an extension, please contact Jenny in the library via email Jennifer.moss@education.vic.gov.au.
Please note there is now separate entry and exit doors to the library and limited numbers allowed at one time. Borrowing and reading will still be allowed during recess and lunchtimes but no socialising, games or activities will be run until further notice. You can view our catalogue on your device by clicking HERE. If you want some more ideas of what to read, feel free to email through what sort of books you like and I can put together a package of a few books for you to collect. You can also go to Goodreads and look up a book you like and they will have other recommendations. Another great site I highly recommend is Inside a Dog. This is all about teen fiction with teen reviews and blogs. Please note, due to COVID-19 any returned books will be out of circulation for 3 days before being allowed to return to the shelves, so it may take a bit longer for you to get some of the popular titles. They will be noted on Destiny when they are available to borrow.
Don’t forget you can also get eBooks via Geelong Regional Libraries.
Years 7 - 9 should have seen the information about the Premiers Reading Challenge, the Reading Bingo Challenge and the Write a Book Review (your teacher has forwarded the details through to you via Canvas). They all have prizes to be won, so please get involved and get reading! This will be open until the last week of Term 2.
Below is a book review from Ashleigh in Year 9.
