Flourishing In 2023

Hello From Prep

The stars of Prep sure are shining bright! With 41 days of school now behind us the learning just keeps unfolding and the excitement of what’s still to come is consistently growing!

Making new friends and learning new routines can be tricky, but in Prep, working together, and treating others with kindness and respect, allows us to learn in our own way and time, feeling safe knowing mistakes are expected and a huge part of being a learner.

Our big question this term for FBI is, God calls us to be engaged members of the world, so in what ways can I participate, stay healthy and grow with others being me?  This term we have definitely participated. We have been presented with lots of engaging experiences to participate, recognise similarities and differences within our class,  families, friendships, interests, sporting talents, artistic talents, and creative talents.Sharing meals together and identifying healthy food choices has taught us that our body needs fuel to grow and be active. Celebrating St Joseph's day allowed us to participate as a Parish and school community in recognising Jesus' earthly father, Joseph. Our colour run was a great way to be active, and participate, so too was our school community fete.

Spending as much time as we can with our Buddies makes us very happy. Our Buddies have been fantastic role models helping us to settle at school, teaching us new things, and supporting our learning. We love our buddies!

We now know the difference between letters, words, and sentences, can identify words that rhyme, clap syllables in words (which are word parts), have met our InitiaLit friends, Maggie Mouse, Sammy Seal, Tommy Tiger, and Andy Ant, and READ words with these sounds already! Did you know that every letter has a name and a sound?  We can also write the sounds as letters. Sounds are called phonemes and the letters we write to make words with the sounds we hear are called graphemes! We can say words, read words and write words.

We go to school for five days and stay home for two days. These days are called days of the week and we know that there are seven days in a week and they repeat. If something repeats, it is a pattern. Patterns are all around us and they can repeat or grow. The days of the week are a repeating pattern. Growing patterns are fun to make – can you find or make a growing pattern or a repeating pattern? Buzz is one of our favourite maths games. It can be really tricky knowing which number comes before or after another number- counting is a pattern too!

At school, we follow the 3 B’s- Be safe, Be a learner, and Be respectful. Being a learner is fun and easy in the Prep Space especially when we are all respectful and think safety first.
