Clean up Australia Day at CNPS Tomorrow
Clean Up Australia Day is Sunday, 5 March. Our students and staff will be cleaning up our school grounds for Clean Up Australia Day tomorrow between 2:30 pm and 3:00 pm. We encourage all of our students to bring along gloves, such as gardening gloves or disposable gloves, as we will be picking up any rubbish onsite and doing a bit of weeding to get our school ready for the Great Lee Street Fete.
Any CNPS Families who would like to join us are welcome to attend.
Thank you!
Respectful Relationships MoRE Pilot
Carlton North Primary School is a Lead School in Respectful Relationships. The Respectful Relationships program supports schools and early childhood settings to promote and model respect, positive attitudes and behaviours. It teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence.
Respectful Relationships education is a core component of the Victorian Curriculum from Foundation to Year 12. It is all about embedding a culture of respect and equality across the entire school community.
This year, CNPS will be participating in the Modelling Respect and Equality pilot program through the Respectful Relationships program. The objective of the Modelling Respect and Equality pilot program is for schools to deepen their understanding of the link between supporting healthy masculinities and the prevention of violence against women and further embed a whole school approach to Respectful Relationships.
Next Wednesday afternoon, all staff will be participating in the initial professional learning session, What is the Man Box?
BYOD iPad Program at CNPS
In 2022, CNPS School Council reviewed feedback from staff and parents/carers on the 1:1 BYOD iPad Program. After careful consideration School Council and School Leadership determined that the Program would continue and we would encourage families of students in Years 3 to 6 to provide an iPad for their child/ren. It is essential for students in these year levels to access their own individual devices as they prepare for their use of digital devices in secondary school and their world of work.
Families of students in Foundation to Year 2 can still provide their child with an individual device, however, the school will provide a small class set of iPads for each class. Those students of families with children in any year level at CNPS who are not in the financial situation to provide a device will not be disadvantaged at CNPS. The school will ensure that all students have access to devices when needed.
At CNPS we use iPads and chrome books to access the Seesaw app so that students and teachers can share class learning and individual student learning with CNPS families. The devices are also used to administer online assessments through Essential Assessment and other online learning platforms. Most of the learning at CNPS is hands-on using manipulatives and pen and paper.
Monitoring Use of Technology at Home
The responsibilities of our teachers and education support staff is continuing to become more complex as they are required to address incidents that have occurred in the online environment outside of school,as these flow on and impact the wellbeing of our students in the classroom. We ask families to please monitor your child’s use of technology closely at home and take the time to talk to them about being safe online.
In Term 2, we will be conducting an online Parent/Carer Information Session with Evolve - Bec Martin and Steve Villani. In Term 2 and Term 4, we will also be conducting CyberSafety sessions to educate students in Years 3 to 6 on online safety at home and at school.
150 Year Anniversary
This year, Carlton North Primary celebrates its 150th year as a school. The school’s official birthday is 28 July, and we are seeking expressions of interest from CNPS families and the wider community to form a 150-Year Anniversary Committee to lead celebrations of this wonderful milestone. If you are interested in joining this committee, we ask that you please email the school carlton.north.ps@education.vic.gov.au
