Chickens

It is with great sadness to inform you all that one of our chickens passed away this week due to being unwell. It is always a difficult experience when these things occur but it is a natural part of the life cycle and we remain grateful and reflective knowing that the chook had a lovely time being part of our school family, just as much as we enjoyed watching her through the the coop.

HELP!!!

We are inviting any interested and available families to once again volunteer their time to care for our chickens over the April holidays, from Good Friday until Anzac Day. If you have some time and would like to volunteer you can email me Anne Deegan adeegan@sjwheelershill.catholic.edu.auand I will be in contact to determine suitable times. We will try to use the trybooking system for this process, however you can simply email me too if you know you are free.

We have had a clean up of our plants around the kitchen garden and ask everyone to please be careful in this space. This beautiful feature of our school is a lovely area to sit and  enjoy watching the chooks.

Sustainability Leaders

During the week we had a visit from Chris from Sustainability at Monash. Chris will work with our year 6 Sustainability Leaders who will then educate our year 4 students all about recycling and ways to care for our environment. This will begin next term.

Year 4 Stewardship Program

The year 4 students will be attending an excursion this Wednesday to Tirhatuan Park Reserve to undertake quality water testing of the creek and wetlands. This citizen science project will ensure the students develop their awareness of the important ways Melbourne Water maintains our waterways for the benefit of all living creatures. They will develop their understandings of how people contribute to the pollution of the waterways and how people can find the solutions required. Our excursion is part 3 of a four week course focusing on our local waterways delivered by Melbourne Water
