Koorie Youth Summit, Koorie Leadership program and Willum Warrain

It was a great year for our Indigenous students last year, we were able to go out on a few excursions and start regular sessions with AIME (Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience). We attended the Koorie Youth Summit, Koorie Leadership program and Willum Warrain.

Some of the different activities students have taken part in include smoking ceremonies, burning possum amulets and cooking a kangaroo stir fry lunch. Students were also able to meet and listen to Indigenous Musician, Mitch Tambo!

In AIME the students finished off their mural paintings, which they had been working on with their AIME mentor's Angus and Leia. They also got AIME hoodies as an end of year gift. Overall it was a successful year for our AIME students! AIME will be running again this year once Angus returns from leave and we have the following events this term:

Indigenous student workshop at Monash: Tuesday March 28th, Students from years 9-12 are invited to attend this event which focuses on pathways after school, particularly in the arts. Koorie Youth Summit: Friday March 31st, this event is held at Willum Warrain many activities will be on offer and it also gives students an opportunity to meet and engage with Indigenous students from other local schools.
