Around Our School
Japanese Study Tour
Recently we hosted six Japanese students and their teacher to our school to study in Australia and participate in our lifestyle. We had four host families who very kindly cared for them; Debra Beacham, Gail Mack, Tiffnee Mellech and Elizabeth Banfield. Our students were buddies for the two school days and did an excellent job ensuring they enjoyed their study here, thanks to students Leeanne Smith, Perri Hobbs, Olivia Percoco, Madeline Heskins, Eve Kibblewhite and Shannon Loader.
Also, thank you to the LOTE staff who gave huge support to this visit and to our Principal, Mr John Albiston, who drove the school bus all day Sunday to ensure they experienced many different activities on the Mornington Peninsula.
Finally thank you to all the staff and students who made this time very special for our visitors.
The feedback from everyone was that it was a very successful experience for all.

Cyber Safety
Leading Senior Constable Daneen Richie from the Somerville Police came to Frankston High School and spoke to all of our Year 7 and 8 students about the implications of issues with social media and cybersafety.
Students were informed about the the dangers of chatting to strangers online, taking and posting images online, as welll as, laws associated with the online world.
Thanks to Daneen for coming and educating our students about being informed in relation to all aspoects of online safety.
Pages Mean Prizes
Throughout Semester One students in the junior school had regular lessons dedicated to reading. Some students continued to read more at home, and as a result have collectively logged an amazing number of pages read through the semester.
To celebrate this learning achievement, morning teas were held for the Year 7 and 8 class with the most pages read. A range of snacks were provided to the students as a way of celebrating together the effort they had put into this vital life skill. 7B were the winners with a whopping total of 94,372 pages read between them, special mention should go to 7G, who closely followed with 92,947 pages read. In year 8, 8D won with a total of 46,834 pages read.
A small group of students in Year 7 have gone above and beyond this and have each recorded over 20,000 pages read so far this year. These students are Chris Jobi (7B), Emma Wallace (7C), Anneliese Newton (7G) and Abbey Black (7G). These students have been rewarded with $20 vouchers to treat themselves for their hard work.
Well done to all students involved in the program and we hope to see more students reading through the rest of the year.
We would love for you to support us and your child in this endeavor by reminding them to read at home in the evenings, and talking to them about what they are reading, and any goals they may want to achieve.
SCIENCE Week 2018
Science Week for 2018 was a great hit – with many different activities running throughout the week. We had the movie “The Martian” running every lunch during the week. Thanks to Mr Mark Seaton and Ms Michelle Snooks for running and supervising this.
We also had a wander through the Universe using an excellent Virtual Reality App and the VR glasses at lunchtime on Tuesday. Thank you to Mr Aaron Elias for supervising this and being able to explain to 45 students what all the “space things” were.
On Wednesday we had Ms Danielle Mates give a fascinating, insightful and visually spectacular presentation of her time in Antarctica, and some of the scientific research she has participated in during her many trips to Antarctica. Thanks to Ms Ebonie Burns for supervising the presentation, and to Ms Danielle Mates for giving us her time.
The Grand Final of the Spaghetti Tower Challenge was at lunchtime on Thursday, with a team from each class competing against each other to build the tallest tower in 15 minutes using only spaghetti, masking tape, string and their amazing scientific skills!
The winners from Year 7 were Ms Kristina Henson’s class, 7E, with a tower standing 43cm. From Year 8 the winning tower stood a magnificent 83cm and was built by the team from Mr Heath Booth’s class, 8K. Both teams have won their class a pizza lunch. A huge thanks to all the students that came to support their class mates, and all of the teachers that supervised and supported their classes: Mr Tom Whipp, Mr Mark Seaton, Ms Elise Roper, Ms Kylie Williams, Mr Joel McMahon, Ms Kristina Henson, Ms Ebonie Burns, Mr Mal Burt and Mr Peter Sadler. A huge thanks also to Ms Lorraine Buttery for organising all the supplies and counting all the spaghetti.
It has been another fantastic Science Week and huge thanks to all the students and teachers that participated in things and joined in on the fun!
