MACBETH

As part of their study of Shakespeare’s play ‘Macbeth’, Year 10 students had the privilege of watching an abridged performance by the Eagles Nest Theatre Company.

This action-packed play was brought to life vividly with three performers taking on multiple roles, cleverly using minor costume changes to represent the different characters. From spooky witches to blood-thirsty warriors, the hall came alive with bubbling cauldrons, murderous intentions, and fierce battle scenes. Students were given insight into how directorial interpretation can focus on different aspects of the play. This helped them understand that their own ideas can be different from others but still be valid, it is about how they use the evidence from the play to support their thinking.

Overall positive responses from the students included comments about how seeing and hearing the play aided understanding, and that even with the complexity of Shakespearean language, the actions of the actors, their tones and facial expression brought the plot to life!
