INTERNATIONAL STUDENT PROGRAM

International Week

Last week our annual International Week at Brighton SC took place.

A great program of activities and events was prepared by our student leaders to promote and celebrate the many languages and cultural backgrounds that make up our school community.

  1. Students designed ‘kindness cards’ and distributed them throughout the school.

  2. Over 80 students participated in the ‘chopstick vs fork vs spoon world championships’, with Charlie Kwon Year 11, the eventual winner and showing all that a pair of chopsticks can clearly take down both a fork and a spoon in speed and accuracy. Well done Charlie

  3. K-pop rehearsals took place and will be available for viewing soon. Thank you Ms Boyd
  4. Mr Hobson organised ‘world bands’ to perform at lunchtime during which our Junior School student leaders paraded ‘Flags of all Nations’. This was a lunchtime not to be missed, with great sounds and colors proving to be a great combination.

  5. Ms Flessa and her Year 9 and 10 Humanities students dressed in a range of national costumes, showcasing costumes from Vietnam, China, Greece and Africa.

  6. Frank Feng conducted Rubik’s cube workshops in the library. How is it possible to solve the cube in 10 seconds? Frank can!!

  7. In our Library, we had many students enter the daily quizzes, piece together jigsaws and locate their ancestral roots on a world map (highlighting the unique and diverse backgrounds of our community)
  8. Our SRC conducted a very successful food drive in support of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre. All donations will be delivered in the coming weeks.

Thank you to everyone who supported and participated in our International Week activities with special thanks to Bethany, Issy and their team of student organisers.

International Parent Information Day

Ms Luong and Ms Thuy organised parent information sessions to assist our overseas parents in understanding the Victorian Curriculum and the mechanics of VCE. Following this session, Mr James Shen, parent of a current Year 12 student and President of the Australian Tea Association, provided a very informative workshop on types of tea, how best to prepare tea and the benefits to drinking tea. Thank you James, Ms Luong and Ms Thuy for a great, informative morning.
