Senior Girls Footy

The senior girls AFL team, a powerful mix of year 11s and year 12s, came out firing for their competition against the schools in our district on the 3rd of May at McKinnon Reserve. With only 16 players on the field and no bench, the girls fought hard to win against McKinnon and Mordialloc.

Unfortunately, with a few girls getting injured we lost against Parkdale and Bentleigh.

However, the girls did not give up, they kept high spirits and played the game out strong. Overall, it was a nice day for the team with half of the team enjoying their last school AFL day with an amazing team.

Senior Boys Footy

Our senior boys school football team played a round robin against local secondary schools in the bayside area. Unfortunately, our team did not win a game and finished 0-4, although the day was highly successful as all players and coaches Mr Myers and Ms McWaters all enjoyed the day. The was highlight was Wayd Nash’s inspirational tackle which lit up the crowd and inspired the senior boys to kick our first goal for the day. Overall, I would recommend anyone to get involved in any and all optional sport days no matter skill level to further develop relationships with your peers, teachers and affiliates with other schools.

Year 10 Sports Coaching class excursion to St. Kilda FC

We spent a day at the St Kilda football club in Moorabbin as an excursion for sports coaching to further develop our knowledge of the areas we have studied, and the physical training we have to partake in ourselves. In this excursion we went through a tour of the clubs’ facilities, including the oval, basketball court, gym and the players room. We had the opportunity to meet some of the club’s footy players and watch them train before their captains run. We listened to a presentation on the courses offered at Holmesglen relating to sports coaching and personal training as well as the pathways to get to working for the AFL. As an activity we got into small groups and taught the rest of the class different skills of AFL, like kicking, handballing, and bouncing. We had to use a scenario of teaching 6-year old’s when thinking of how to teach the skill, so the instructions were clear and the activity was fun. Thanks to the St Kilda football club for allowing us to come, it was an enjoyable experience that we got a lot out from.
