From the Grade 5/6 Classrooms

 Think Global, Act Local

By Ava, Sophie, Olivia, and Ayvah from 6JK

This term the Grade 5/6s are focusing on the topic Think Global Act Local. We are learning about the natural world, how we are changing it, and how it motivates us to live sustainably.

We have been concentrating on building different instruments to calculate weather, which includes anemometers, rain gauges, barometers, and wind vanes.

Some of the materials we used were:

  • Balloons
  • Glass jars
  • Tape
  • Straws, and more...

The essential questions we were required to ask ourselves are:

  • How do geographers and scientists study the environment?
  • How do meteorologists collect weather data and why is this important?
  • How does the environment influence how people live, work and play?

This was a fun way of learning and experimenting with how to measure and collect weather data. These are some comments from the 5/6 team.
