Waratah Group

Louise, Kath and Tina

The children in Waratah Group are very settled and enjoying engaging in the program.

We have many strategies that we use with the group that are embedded in our program, supporting children in their all round development and developing skills in a variety of areas.

Some strategies for development are:

“Fill a bucket”- The concept of bucket filling is to use actions and words to make someone feel good about themselves, to enhance resilience and inspire them to achieve internal happiness.

“Show and share box” - To encourage questioning, listening, confidence building.

“Group time”- Respecting others' personal space, listening, engaging in conversations and waiting for their turn.

“Buddy Time" - Children are paired with another child who they may not usually play or interact with. The children need to stay, play and talk with their buddy for at least 10 minutes. This assists the children with their social interactions, building new relationships  and stepping out of their comfort zone.

"Special helper” - Provides children with the opportunity for autonomy over areas of the program.

“Sand/liquid Timers” -  Support children to wait for their turn, persevere and stay at an experience.

“Calming strategies” -  Listening to Smiling Mind episodes, quiet time, liquid timers, fidget toys.

We encourage the children to use many of these independently, providing them with tools to cope in a variety of situations.

If you haven’t had the chance to catch up for a chat, let me know and we can make a time.

Thanks,

Louise
