Catholic Identity

Mercy Prayer

We pray for the Sisters of Mercy, who established our school and for the priests who have served at St. Mary’s.

It is through their vision,  determination and strong faith that we enjoy the benefits of a Catholic Education here in Mooroopna.

We are proud to be a Mercy School, where the values of love and justice are taught and lived every day.

Greater Shepparton Winter Shelter Appeal Fundraiser: “Pyjama Day!”

The Grade Six Social Justice Leadership Team have organised a “Pyjama Day” to be held on Thursday, 10th June in support of the Greater Shepparton Winter Shelter Appeal. St. Mary’s Parish is one of seven local churches involved in this initiative. This appeal involves housing, feeding and providing friendship connections for the homeless in our area during the winter months.

Students are invited to wear their pyjamas or dressing gown or slippers to school on this day and bring a GOLD COIN DONATION to help support the Winter Shelter Appeal.

Please see the flier attached to this newsletter for further information.

Sacramental Program for the Sacrament of Reconciliation - beginning on Friday, 28th May.

St. Mary’s Sacramental program will commence this term for students in Grade Three and above who have received the Sacrament of Baptism and are enrolled in the program.

The students enrolled in the Reconciliation program will gather each Friday at St. Mary’s School from 9.00am - 10.00am to complete the Steps in Faith Reconciliation booklets together, led by Maree Williams, the Parish coordinator of the Sacramental Program and Mrs. Hicks/Mr. Butts.

Over the four weeks, the students will complete parts of the Reconciliation booklet at school and be given set tasks to complete at home with their parents each week.

The students will present their completed booklets to Mons. Peter at one of the masses on the weekend of June 19th/20th before celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Tuesday, 22nd June, 2021 at St. Mary’s Church at 6.30pm.

If you would like your child to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation program, or any of the other sacramental programs for this year, please contact the school office for an enrolment form or email Mrs. Michelle Hicks via mhicks@smmooroopna.catholic.edu.au

Australian Catholic magazine - Winter Edition

The Winter edition of the Australian Catholic magazine has some interesting articles in it, including one about the amazing job our essential workers complete each day to help make our communities run smoothly!

Another story included in the magazine is about the role of godparents at Baptism - a great read for those thinking of getting their children baptised.

A copy of this magazine was sent home for each family this week.

St. Vinnie’s Winter Appeal.

Our school will celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart

of Jesus with a Prayer Liturgy on Friday, 18th June at 10.15am in the Marian Centre.

We are asking for donations of non-perishable food items and Winter clothing and blankets as part of our focus on social justice and fairness for all at this prayer liturgy.

Each classroom has a washing basket where the students may deliver the food items or Winter clothing (eg. socks, pyjamas, dressing gowns, scarves, beanies, coats) or items may be left at the school office.

Wanted: Bagpipes Player!!

Do you know of someone who plays the bagpipes and would be available to play for us here at school on June 18th? Please contact Michelle Hicks at mhicks@smmooroopna.catholic.edu.au

Call for New Altar Servers!

St. Mary’s Parish is inviting any student in Grades 4 - 6 who have received the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist to train to become an altar server. This is a wonderful way to be involved in our liturgies and serve others. At the moment, St. Mary’s School only has one active altar server available to us for school masses and we would welcome many more!! Training is available. Please contact Michelle Hicks at mhicks@smmooroopna.catholic.edu.au if your child is interested.
