PLT Spotlight

Year 6

It has been a busy start to Term 3 in Year 6!  We have had Pyjama Day, Casey Netball Competition, the Year 5-6 Camp to Waratah Bay and we have learnt so much new content in the classroom!

In Reading, we have started reading our whole class novel ‘Refugee,’ and learning about the historical events that have influenced the story line and setting of this text.  To demonstrate our understanding, we regularly engage in focus groups with our peers to have rich discussions about the events, and to develop our comprehension capabilities.  In addition to this, we also monitor our own understanding by determining important information to take notes and consolidate our understanding of text specific vocabulary.

In Writing, we are currently in the final stages of drafting our information reports on various topics.  The focus within our information reports has been to follow the correct text structure with a checklist, include tier 2 and tier 3 vocabulary and include appropriate diagrams and/or photographs to further represent information in our description paragraphs.

In Maths, we have explored the concept of integers and identifying which numbers can/can’t be classified as integers and why.  We have also focused on the properties of 3D shapes and the history of where pyramids and prisms have originated from.

Our personal highlight has been the Year 5-6 Camp to Waratah Bay.  At camp during the day, we completed a range of activities including the giant swing, initiatives course, rock climbing, beach volleyball and a scavenger hunt.  At night after meal times we roasted marshmallows by the camp fire and sang songs, as well as a night walk along the beach!
